FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
MMA Announces results of 2011 Board of Director Elections

As announced  in a previous communication to its active members, the Massachusetts Motorcycle Association's Board of Directors met on October 5, 2011.  This meeting was not only the monthly meeting of the board to conduct MMA business but also, in accordance with the MMA's bylaws, annual October meetings are considered the annual meeting for the organization.  One of the primary functions at the annual meeting is to elect members to scheduled vacancies on the Board.  This announcement was Deferred while awaiting results of annual District elections conducted during the month of October for Representatives to the Board. The MMA is now pleased to announce the results of all elections.

In rotating 3-year terms, open for election were Chairman, Legislative Director, District 1 Manager, and District 4 Manager.  Other positions, representing approximately 1/3 of the MMA Board are open for election in each of the 3 year cycle.

Re-Elected to 3 year terms were Dave Condon, MMA Chairman, Rick Gleason, Legislative Director, and Tanker Griswold, District 4 Manager.  John Pecora was elected to his first term as District 1 Manager. John previously served the board as the District 1 Representative.

Richard Schofield declined nomination to be re-elected to the District 1 Manager’s position.  Richard has served the MMA with distinction in many roles but chose to focus his energies on Veteran’s Affairs while remaining active in the MMA in a lesser capacity.  MMA Vice Chairman, Doc D’Errico thanked Richard for his service, not only within the district, but for spearheading numerous state-wide events such as the annual Lacey Packer Toy Run and chairing several committees including the Elections Committee.

Prior to the elections, the sitting MMA Board regretfully accepted the resignation of Deb Perkins, District 3 Manager.  Deb has served the board for a number of terms, but due to personal changes including moving outside the district, is unable to continue to fulfill the role.  The Board unanimously extended their gratitude to Deb for her years of diligent service to the board.  In a letter to Deb, MMA chairman, Dave Condon stated, “on behalf of the Board of Directors I wish to personally thank you for your service to the MMA and the riders of this State. Lots of riders talk about motorcycle rights, safety and education but very few step up to the level that you did and you are to be commended for that.”  The vacancy leaves an opportunity for someone to join the MMA board representing Worcester County, the Commonwealth’s largest.

Election of District 3 Manager and Representative were deferred to allow for announcement and submission of candidates.

In related activities, the Board unanimously voted to create the position of Merchandise Manager to create more focus geared towards MMA membership.  MMA Life Member, Laurie Horn was then elected to the position.

In separate elections held in each District, MMA District Representatives were elected by active members attending their respective District meetings in October.  District 1 elected Middlesex County Rep Dana Melberg to move up to represent the District.  District 2 elected Norfolk County member Bill Cheetham and District 4 re-elected Dallas Stuck to another term.

MMA Chairman Dave Condon noted, “stepping up to actively support Motorcyclists’ Rights is something we appreciate in our entire membership, but it clearly takes someone selfless to accept the tireless work of a MMA Officer or Board Member.  The MMA is a 100% volunteer organization which makes it not only uniquely special, but amazing in what it’s achieved over the past 36 years.  I’m extremely proud of what our current Board has accomplished over the past 3 years and look forward to continuing taking the MMA to new heights.  I thank the outgoing Board and look forward to working with the newly elected Members!”
