MMA Announces new District III Manager

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
MMA Announces new District III Manager

The Massachusetts Motorcycle Association is pleased to announce the unanimous election of Lou Papile as the new District III Manager.  Seated at the MMA monthly meeting of the Board of Directors, Lou has already been working hard to reinvigorate the MMA’s District III to the vitality it once held.

A US Navy Veteran, Lou has been an avid rider since 1982 and loves working on motorcycles.  His primary ride is a 2008 Harley-Davidson Street Glide, but he also is restoring a 1979 FLH and is working on a 1978 FX with a friend.  Active in his local community through his engraving and awards business (Engraveables, Inc. in Marlboro) since 1984, Lou enjoys family life with his wife, children, and granddaughter, but understands the challenges we all face.

Telling the MMA Board that he wanted to be more active with the MMA for a long time, Lou stated, "I like the fact that the MMA fights for all motorcyclists rights in the Commonwealth, so in my opinion, it's a no-brainer to join the MMA. I ride my bike as much as I can and do a fair amount of camping in the summer, so it's nice to know that someone has my back and will work to prevent people from taking that away from me!”

Lou's statements were reminiscent of the significant challenges faced in Central Massachusetts only a few years ago when the small town of Sterling decided to violate the constitutional rights of motorcyclists through a motorcycle-only checkpoint without fair warning and due process.  Erected under the guise of “impaired operation", the motorcycle-only checkpoint netted approximately 70 motorcyclists and citations were issued for infractions ranging from non-DOT helmets to loud exhaust — none of which had anything to do with sobriety.  With the help of the MMA, over 60 riders chose to challenge those summons and ALL were defeated successfully.

Since that time, all has been rather quiet in District III, and following the departure of a long-tenured District Manager who moved away, the district has been starved for new leadership.

With some exciting ideas about how he’d like to see the District re-energized,, Lou plans to begin with a series of meetings around the district to bring his ideas to the District Membership and more importantly, to listen to the membership about their ideas and aspirations.  Lou will also be seeking a District Representative and possible Area Representatives to help him rebuild the district.

The MMA Board of Directors welcomes Lou to the Board and will do everything we can to support him in his endeavors.
